'Spider-Man' Nabs $8.3 Million on Wednesday

Spider-Man continued to weave its Marvel-ous box office web on Wednesday. Though not a record for the day, the famed webslinger caught $8,315,369 on Wednesday, representing a modest 16.5% drop from Tuesday.

The Marvel Comics adaptation's total climbed to $144,156,124 after just six days, jumping 16 spots on the all time chart to No. 104 in the process. Spider-Man's gross is a mere $340 less than No. 103 Dr. Dolittle's $144,156,464, and it will likely land at No. 95 by Thursday.

Spidey's still on pace to spin the Fastest to $200 Million record, a feat it should pull off by Sunday, its 10th day of release.

The current title holder is Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which did it in 13 days. On its comparable Wednesday, it dipped 5.2% from Tuesday to $7,751,876 for an eight-day total of $132,475,660. The second fastest to $200 million (15 days), Harry Potter, cast a $12,642,000 spell on its first Wednesday, enjoying a Thanksgiving boost, for $117,233,000 after six days.

Also on Wednesday, the Richard Gere-Diane Lane sexual thriller Unfaithful opened at two venues in Los Angeles and New York City and scored $27,000. It expands to 2,613 theaters on Friday.
