'Spider-Man' Tops Soundtrack Sales Again as 'Star Wars' Falls

Spider-Man remained by far the top selling soundtrack for the week ending May 12, according to figures from SoundScan.

Featuring the single "Hero" by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, sales for "music from and inspired by Spider-Man" eased 10.5% from its debut to 100,375, ranking it No. 6 on the overall chart. In two weeks, 212,575 copies have been snatched up by consumers.

Meanwhile, the soundtrack to Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones plummeted No. 15 to No. 46.

Musiq's latest album "Juslisen" debuted at the top of the charts on sales of 260,150 units. The R&B singer's last album, "Aijuswanaseing," sold 56,000 copies its first week out in 2000, bowing at No. 32. It went on to sell over 1.5 million copies, peaking at No. 24.

Buoyed by Mother's Day shoppers, Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come" saw sales rise 41% to 142,700, up four notches to No. 2. The French Canadian diva's album has sold over 1.5 million copies in seven weeks.

With mixed reviews and without major radio airplay, Lauryn Hill's "MTV Unplugged 2.0" bowed in third place with 122,500. Nearly four years ago, Hill's solo debut "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" moved 423,000 units its first week en route to 6.1 million.

Last week's No. 1, Big Tymers's "Hood Rich" saw sales tumble 42% to 92,525, landing at No. 8 for a two week total of 252,975.

Hip-hop hoorayers Naughty by Nature bowed at No. 15 with "iicons," selling 49,000 copies. Tom Waits released two albums, "Blood Money and "Alice," which landed at No. 32 and 33 respectively on sales of a bit over 30,000 units apiece. Combined, the two sold close to 64,000 copies, the best week of sales of Waits' career. While "Dark Days," the third album from goth-metal band Coal Chamber, dawned at No. 34, selling 31,000 copies.

Among top sales gainers, Norah Jones' Blue Note debut "Come Away With Me" surged nearly 50%, entering the top 20 for the first time at No. 17. While John Mayer's "Room for Squares" enjoyed a 20% improvement, moving up four spots to No. 32. The album is closing in on a gold certification with 455,000 copies sold to date.
