MPAA Ratings: 'Splice,' 'Your Highness,' 'Secretariat'
The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Rating Administration released their weekly bulletin, which included new ratings for Splice, Your Highness and Secretariat.
Sci-fi horror Splice received an R rating for "disturbing elements including strong sexuality, nudity, sci-fi violence and language." Splice features Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as two scientists who combine human and animal DNA to create a new creature that quickly evolves in to a deadly beast. The Warner Bros. release is scheduled for June 4, when it will open opposite Get Him to the Greek, Killers and Marmaduke.
Medieval comedy Your Highness was rated R for "strong crude and sexual content, pervasive language, nudity, violence and some drug use." The Universal Pictures release, directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express), follows James Franco and Danny McBride as a pair of princes tasked with completing a quest to save their father's kingdom. Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman also appear. Your Highness is set to open on Oct. 1, the same date as Alpha and Omega, Let Me In and The Social Network.
Secretariat was given a PG rating for "brief mild language." The sports drama tells the story of Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), the owner of the titular racehorse who won the Triple Crown in 1973. Distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, Secretariat debuts opposite the Kevin James vehicle The Zookeeper on Oct. 8.
