Seven-Day Summary: 'Eclipse,' 'Toy Story 3' Top the Week
Playing for just two out of the past seven days, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse narrowly beat Toy Story 3 for the week. Grown Ups finished in third with a solid start, while Knight & Day had a below-average debut for Tom Cruise. Overall business was up around two percent from the same week last year, when Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen led with $159.9 million.

After grossing a tremendous $68.5 million on Wednesday, Eclipse fell 65 percent to $24.2 million in its second day for a two-day total of $92.7 million. While this tops Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for the top-grossing two-day Wednesday launch ever, it fell short of Iron Man 2's two-day start earlier this summer.

With $91.3 million, Toy Story 3 came in just behind Eclipse and was down 46 percent. That was the fourth highest-grossing second week ever, behind Avatar, The Dark Knight and Shrek 2. During the week, Toy Story 3 passed Toy Story 2 to become the top-grossing Toy Story movie ever, though it still lags behind both prior installments in estimated attendance. Toy Story 3's 14-day haul stood at $258.8 million, ranking as the fourth-highest grossing Pixar movie ever, and it's poised to pass The Incredibles and Up in a matter of days to move in to second place behind Finding Nemo.

Adam Sandler ensemble comedy Grown Ups finished its first week with $58.6 million, which was the highest-grossing opening week for a Sandler movie since The Longest Yard in 2005. Knight & Day was less impressive: the Tom Cruise action-comedy brought in $28 million, bringing its total to $35.3 million in nine days. From here on out, it will have to hold up exceptionally well to minimize the air of disappointment.

The Karate Kid had another standard decline, off 46 percent to $23.3 million for a three-week sum of $143.5 million. Another martial arts-themed movie, The Last Airbender, had one day of play: its $16.4 million Thursday debutwas good enough for sixth place.
