Off the Grid

Modern society is dependent upon a massive infrastructure of utility companies. We all have grown so used to having our electricity and clean water supplied by this system. If this system were to ever fail, a vast majority of the populace will find themselves woefully and inadequately prepared to face a world free of the daily luxuries we now take for granted. Many believe it is too difficult or too expensive to free themselves from the imposed energy tyranny. In an attempt to dispel this perception, Les Stroud has taken his family off the grid to live in a rural acreage in Canada. He demonstrates that we do not need to sacrifice quality of life or invest large sums of money in order to live in an energy-conscious and self-sustaining way. This is not to say it is easy, as the ensuing drama details. Yet, it is possible if one is determined enough to survive.
